On to today...
What an eventful day!
As I posted earlier, the boys set off an hour later than planned due to a long wait for their t-shirts to be printed!
The journey to Selby was fine but wet. In Selby we were slightly confused over road works, and then by mistakes: Methodist churches are not counted on maps and north differed on the map [Does anyone know what they mean?!]. After Selby we followed the canal (“green looks like grass”), and stopped at around 1pm at Skyrehouse Lock so Alastair could watch the boats.
After lunch Alastair had a strange bulge on his tyre and then a puncture. However, Tricky went one better by rendering his bicycle un-rideable! First his chain broke so we walked up hills then rode down them. Then he managed to shear off a crucial bit of frame – the part holding the rear deraillieur - leaving us to walk the last four miles. The result was a loss of time, we got here eventually at 9.45. A spare bike will be delivered to us in the morning by the wonderful Romy – Alastair’s Mum.
Tricky made it up to us with the long awaited meal of pasta boil and grill. Now we want our beds.
Tomorrow, after the spare bike is delivered, the boys will continue onwards - and hopefully won't encounter so many problems! Please keep praying for their journey, and if you haven't already, you can still sponsor them using the details on the right! Mhairi
