START is a six week course introducing the Christian faith. Rachel and Richard Carew are running this course in their home for anyone wanting to know what following Jesus really means. Commencing on Thursday 5th February at 7.45pm for 6 weeks (except during half term) at their home. To book please contact Richard via the church office. PILGRIM is a course for people wanting to explore further the Christian journey. Malcolm Macnaughton and others will be leading it from the start of Lent. PILGRIM is the first in a series of courses designed to help us grow in Christian faith and discipleship. This course will be held in St Andrews Church Hall beginning on Tuesday 24th Feb. To book please contact Malcolm via the church office. LENT LUNCHES Light lunches will be served in St Andrew's Church Hall on Wednesdays during Lent, 25th Feb, 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th March. Proceeds from these lunches will go to St Leonard's and Martin House Hospices. Lunch will be served from 11.45am to 1.00pm. Sounds OK? You might have noticed that we have upgraded the audio visual system in church. We'd now like to build on our team of volunteers who can operate the desk and projector for regular services and special events. Romy Dunn will be running a one day training event on Saturday 21st February. Sound in the morning and more advanced stuff in the afternoon. Attend for just the morning or for the whole day. Email romy @ bishopthorpe.net if you'd like to come. Every 3rd Sunday at St Andrew's we have a family Bring & Share lunch after the 10.30 Praise Service. The next service is 15th February. Please come along and join us. Don't hesitate -you are more than welcome at all these events. Holiday Club - 20th to 24th July - The theme will be The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Once again this will take place at St Andrews Bishopthorpe. Save the date (and your Christmas trees!) Fund Raising for Riandu Barn Dance on Saturday 28th February. Tickets £10 including supper, starts at 7.30pm. Phone 700337 for tickets. WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER will take place at St Andrew's on Friday, 6th March at 10.30am. Men welcome too. The theme will be Going Forward in Faith and we will be joined by the children from Bishopthorpe Junior School. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. ANNUAL CHURCH MEETING at St Andrew's is to be held on Sunday 19th April in the church after the 10.30 service and before the Bring and Share Lunch. Please do attend the meeting as it is an informative meeting and your views can also be raised and listened to at this time. YORK FOOD BANK - CAN YOU HELP? With winter upon us all, the pressure on York Food Bank is increasing once again. York Food Bank is in urgent need of tinned meat and vegetables, dried potato, tinned fruit, jam, small bags of sugar, fruit juice, biscuits, tea and coffee, and bathroom and kitchen cleaning items such as washing up liquid and bathroom toiletries. Any items you can offer can be left with Tom Whaley or in the box at the back of Church. Alternatively you can deliver to Quench Café on Thursday mornings at the Methodist Church. Unfortunately we are unable to accept fresh fruit and vegetables or homemade jams and chutneys.
