Please see the leaflet for our current need and consider whether there is anything you can help with. Christian Aid week fundraising 2018 To fundraise and raise awareness of Christian Aid this year we are planning two events on Saturday 19th May. Instead of distributing and collecting Christian Aid donation envelopes we are encouraging people to attend one of these events and donate that way. Flyers will be produced shortly and we will need volunteers to distribute these throughout the village. From 9.30—11.30am the Churches Together in Bishopthorpe have a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall. We will shortly be asking for volunteers to bake for this. At 7.30pm the Shepherd’s Brass Band concert. Tickets £10 (complementary glass of wine) from Jean Meek or Rachael Bishopthorpe Churches Together—Prayer visiting Each week both of the Churches in Bishopthorpe pray for one of the streets in the village (see back page) and once a year, as part of our outreach, we try to visit a few streets and ask if they have any prayer requests. This can be for a need or thanksgiving; for family, work, pets or for world issues. This is an important part of our Church witness and most people find it a privilege to do. We hope to have at least 12 volunteers, 6 from each church, who go to each house in the chosen street, in pairs, and chat to people. This will take place in the week commencing Monday 4th June from 6.30—7.30pm and you only have to do one evening. The more people we have the more streets we can cover. In preparation for this all volunteers are invited to a light lunch and briefing session at Bishopthorpe Methodist on Sunday 3 June at 12noon. Please prayerfully consider if you can be part of this valuable witness. There is a sign up sheet at the back of church. On Sunday 10th June at 10.30am, to celebrate the prayer visiting, we are having a united service in the village hall, where the village will be invited to come and the collected prayer requests will be used. Please put this date in your diary. Can you help? We are very grateful for the faithful service of our many volunteers, but we need more so that the workload can be spread a little thinner. If you can help with readings, intercessions, sides duties, coffee rota or administration of the chalice during communion please put your name on the sheet at the back of church. If you are interested in the role of Church Hall Booking Secretary or co-ordinator please speak to Linda Brown or the vicar.
